Six days. That's what's left before James Reece comes back, and the odd part is that the man who finished his list has nothing left on it. Season 1 ended with him setting sail for Mozambique. Season 2 picks up on that course, more than four years after the first season hit Prime Video.

The whole season lands at once on Wednesday, Oct. 21. I haven't watched a minute of it, so I can't tell you if it's good. What I can do is lay out what Amazon has confirmed, sort out whether you need to catch up first, and tell you where I land.

Here's my take up front. Swapping revenge for espionage is the right gamble. A list ends, and a show that wants a future needs a bigger problem than one. My worry is whether a story that hops across continents can keep the personal hurt that made people care about Reece in the first place.

The Key Points

  • The Terminal List Season 2 premieres Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026, exclusively on Prime Video, with all eight episodes at once, in more than 240 countries and territories.
  • It adapts True Believer, Jack Carr's second novel. Amazon says Reece's story widens from a psychological revenge thriller into a globe-trotting espionage saga.
  • Regal and Amazon MGM Studios are screening the season premiere one night only on Oct. 20, in Regal RPX at about 75 locations.
  • Season 1 split critics and viewers sharply. Reports put critics' Rotten Tomatoes score between the mid-30s and about 40%, and the audience score at 94% to 95%.
  • My take: watch Season 1 first, and add Dark Wolf if you can, because Amazon's casting and TV Insider's recap tie Season 2 to both.
Paragraph 1 · Situation

What happened in The Terminal List Season 1 and Dark Wolf? A spoiler-labeled recap

Spoiler zoneThis recap covers the end of Season 1 and how Dark Wolf connects to it. If you'd rather go in clean, skip to Paragraph 2.
  1. Season 1 (July 1, 2022, eight episodes). Navy SEAL Commander James Reece comes home after a covert mission where his platoon was ambushed, with blurry memories and a growing sense that something is wrong. He starts working through a list of the people behind it.
  2. The last name. According to TV Insider's recap, the final name belongs to Ben Edwards (Taylor Kitsch), Reece's former friend, who helped enable the conspiracy. Reece shoots Ben on his boat, and that ends the revenge story.
  3. Dark Wolf (Aug. 27, 2025). This prequel follows Ben before Season 1, tracing his path from the Navy SEALs into the CIA's shadow side. TV Insider says it also covers how Reece came together with Mo Farooq, played by Dar Salim, who is in the Season 2 cast.
  4. The jump. Season 1 closes with Reece heading to Mozambique, and Prime Video says Season 2 opens with him on that course, grieving what he lost.
Paragraph 2 · Mission

What is The Terminal List Season 2 about?

Amazon's synopsis says Reece is searching for a new purpose after finishing his list, and he uncovers a conspiracy reaching from Moscow to Langley, with ties to his own family's history. Dark Horizons adds that, in the novel, he's reluctantly recruited by the U.S. government after a string of terrorist attacks on the Western world. TV Insider's write-up of the trailer says an attack in London pulls him back in and puts him on the trail of a former ally turned enemy.

Here is the route Amazon says Reece travels this season:

  1. The Indian Ocean. The starting point, with Reece on course for Mozambique.
  2. Southern and Northern Africa. Deadline's report on Amazon's announcement lists both.
  3. The Middle East. A region the first season already touched in its opening mission.
  4. Europe. Where the trailer places the London attack, per TV Insider.
My takeA passport stamp isn't a plot. Season 1 worked because it was claustrophobic: one man, one list, one rotten secret. Four regions and two intelligence agencies can feel epic or feel like a travel montage, and which one we get depends on whether Reece's grief stays in the frame.
Paragraph 3 · Execution

When does The Terminal List Season 2 come out, and where can you watch it?

ORDER CARD · TERMINAL LIST S2OPENS OCT. 21
WherePrime Video only
PremiereWednesday, Oct. 21, 2026, all 8 episodes at once, no weekly drip
ReachMore than 240 countries and territories
Early lookOne-night Regal RPX screening of the season premiere, Oct. 20, at about 75 locations
CostPrime Video comes with Amazon Prime, which Amazon lists at $14.99 a month or $139 a year in the U.S.
Release timeI couldn't find one. Dark Wolf's episodes were reported at 3 a.m. ET, but that's a habit, not a confirmation.
TrailerOut. Amazon's explainer was updated Sept. 17 to add it.

The theater night is the news hook I like most. Box Office Pro reports that Regal RPX, its premium format, uses enhanced laser projection and upgraded sound, and some auditoriums add haptic seating. I couldn't find ticket prices or whether the screening shows one episode or more, so check Regal's listing before you plan around it.

If you'd rather stay home, the math is simple. Eight episodes at two a night means you finish by Saturday if you start Wednesday. I couldn't find official runtimes, so I won't pretend to know the hours.

Paragraph 4 · Personnel

Who is in The Terminal List Season 2 cast and crew?

Back, per Amazon

The returning list

Chris Pratt as James Reece, Tom Hopper as Raife Hastings, Constance Wu as Katie Buranek, Dar Salim as Mohammed Farooq and Luke Hemsworth as Jules Landry.

Joining

The expanded cast

Gabriel Luna as Freddy Strain, plus Costa Ronin, Olga Kurylenko, Yul Vazquez, Arnold Vosloo, Martin Sensmeier, Shiraz Tzarfati and Jeremy Bobb. Amazon didn't list most of their roles.

Behind the camera

The team

David DiGilio is writer and showrunner. Pratt, Antoine Fuqua, author Jack Carr, Kat Samick, former Army Ranger Max Adams and former Navy SEAL Jared Shaw are executive producers. Amazon MGM Studios, MRC and Civic Center Media produce.

Amazon calls authenticity a core pillar and says veterans work as writers, actors, technical advisors and directors, including former Navy SEAL Ray Mendoza, who worked on the film Warfare. Pratt calls the season a love letter to the Special Operations community, and I'll be watching for whether that shows up in the details.

Paragraph 5 · Intelligence

How did critics and viewers react to The Terminal List Season 1?

Few shows split two audiences this cleanly. These are the figures reported around and after launch, and scores move, so I haven't checked today's.

Critics, Rotten Tomatoes ~34-40%
TechRadar's reports ranged from 34% to 40% over time.
Audience, Rotten Tomatoes ~94-95%
JoBlo reported 94% at the time.

JoBlo also reported over 1.6 billion minutes viewed in the first seven days, and Amazon says the franchise has passed 100 million viewers worldwide. A common critic complaint, quoted by TechRadar from Newsday, was that it felt like an action movie stretched into a season.

My read is that both sides can be right. The show was built for people who want a hard-edged military revenge story, and they showed up. The criticism that it overstays its welcome is fair, and it's why eight episodes this time is a number I'll be watching closely.

Paragraph 6 · Sustainment

Do you need to watch Dark Wolf or Season 1 before The Terminal List Season 2?

Never seen it

Start with Season 1

It's eight episodes and the whole foundation: the list, the ambush and Ben. Add Dark Wolf if you have the time.

Saw Season 1 only

I'd add Dark Wolf

TV Insider says Season 2 builds directly on both, and Mo Farooq's history with Reece comes from the prequel.

Saw both, fuzzy

Skim, then rewatch the finale

Use the recap above and rewatch Season 1's last episode. That's the emotional starting line for Season 2.

Short on time

Read the recap

You'll follow the plot. You'll miss some of the weight, and with Reece, the weight is the point.

My pick for most people: Season 1 is the must, and Dark Wolf is the smart extra.

Paragraph 7 · Command and signal

Is trading revenge for espionage the right move for The Terminal List? My take

I think it is, and I think the show has no real alternative. A revenge story has a built-in ending. Reece crossed off the last name, and a second season that went hunting for a new list would feel like a repeat. Making him a reluctant recruit in a bigger world gives him something Season 1 never did: a reason to keep going that isn't only grief.

The risk is the thing critics already pointed at. A spy plot with Moscow, Langley, London and several other stops can easily turn into talk, travel and exposition. That's why I'm not just going to grade whether it's exciting. These are my three checks:

  1. Does the grief still cost him something? Prime Video says the season opens with Reece grieving. If that fades by episode three, the show has traded its heart for scenery.
  2. Can I follow the plot without a chart? Four regions, two agencies and a former ally gone bad is a lot. Clarity will matter more than scale.
  3. Does the action have texture? Amazon leans hard on its veteran team. If the authenticity pledge is real, I should see it in the small details, not only the big firefights.
Where I stand todayCautiously in. I'm curious, not convinced, and I'd rather watch a show take a real swing than repeat its first season. Ask me again after I've seen it.
