If you sat down tonight expecting Gibbs, Tony or Sam Hanna, I’m sorry to be the one to say it: not tonight.

CBS has confirmed that NCIS, NCIS: New York and NCIS: Origins will all skip Tuesday, Nov. 3, because the network is giving the night to election coverage. All three come back next Tuesday, Nov. 10. That’s the whole mystery, and it’s a pretty gentle one.

A quick answer is only half of what you came for, though. Below you’ll find the exact times, the three episode titles waiting for you next week, what you can stream in the meantime and my honest opinion on why a one-week break is easier to live with than it sounds. One note on scope: this is a schedule story. I’m not reviewing any episode here, and when I give an opinion it’s about the decision and the viewing plan.

The countdown

The week in eight dots

Here’s the stretch between tonight and the return, one dot per day. The pink-outlined dot is tonight. The solid one is the night everything comes back.

That’s seven days from tonight to the return, and the shows miss exactly one Tuesday. Hidden Remote notes the skip comes after four consecutive weeks of new episodes, so this is a pause in a run, not the end of one.

The night swap

Tonight versus a normal Tuesday

Since the Oct. 6 premiere, the NCIS Tuesday has been a three-hour block: NCIS at 8 p.m. ET, NCIS: New York at 9 and NCIS: Origins at 10, according to Collider’s report on CBS’s fall schedule. Tonight, Collider reports, CBS is airing CBS News: America Decides: Election 2026 from 7 to 11 p.m. ET instead. Here’s how the hours line up.

My math: CBS’s coverage window is four hours, and three of them, 8 to 11 p.m., are the slots the NCIS shows normally own. That’s why this isn’t one show getting bumped. It’s the whole block.

The coverage window ends at 11 p.m. ET in the reports I read. Those reports give Eastern times, and I didn’t find a separate breakdown by time zone, so check your local CBS listing for your own start time.

Next Tuesday

Nov. 10: the lineup, and where I’d start

Here’s what’s waiting on Tuesday, Nov. 10. Times and titles come from Just Jared’s schedule and Bleeding Cool’s episode listings, and the casting notes come from Collider. The last column is mine: a quick way to pick a first stop if you only have time for one show.

The Nov. 10 NCIS Tuesday, Show by Show
Times are ET/PT as listed by Just Jared. “Start here if” is my own pick-by-reason, not a quality ranking, and I haven’t reviewed these episodes.

One detail I like: all three shows are on Episode 5, so they restart in step. Nobody on the schedule is a chapter ahead of the others.

The guide

What to do with the week

Fox is the exception on network TV tonight. NoReruns lists new episodes of Best Medicine and Doc, and Hidden Remote reports the same. If you’d rather stay with NCIS, Collider notes that earlier episodes are on Paramount+. Whether you can watch the new Nov. 10 episodes live or the next day depends on your plan, so I’d check that before Tuesday, not on Tuesday.

Here are three ways I’d use the seven days.

Lane 1: The catch-up pace

By the episode numbering, each show has aired four episodes, so 12 in total across four Tuesdays. That’s my count. Two a night is six nights, which fits inside the seven days with a night to spare. It only works if all 12 are on Paramount+ the way Collider describes.

Lane 2: The one-show deep dive

Use the “start here if” column above and catch up on only the show you came for. That’s four episodes, and you can be ready by the weekend.

Lane 3: The night off

If you’re already caught up, tonight is a free Tuesday. I can’t pretend that’s a tragedy, and Nov. 10 will feel better for the gap.

Straight answers

Three things people are asking tonight

The worryDid CBS cancel something?
What the reports sayNo. Hidden Remote describes it as a one-week break, and Collider lists all three shows returning Nov. 10.
The worryIs it just the flagship that’s off?
What the reports sayNo. NCIS, NCIS: New York and NCIS: Origins are all off tonight, per Collider and Just Jared.
The worryIs this about ratings?
What the reports sayNothing I read says so. The reason given everywhere is election coverage on CBS, and I won’t invent a second reason.
The history

It’s happened before

This isn’t the first time a big televised event has taken the NCIS slot. SheKnows reports that on March 10, 2025, NCIS and NCIS: Origins took a week off when CBS aired a special concert, Ringo & Friends at the Ryman, in their time slot.

My read, and it’s only a read: a flagship drama can lose a week to a live, one-night event, and it’s one of the few things that can bump it. Elections and concerts have different stakes, but the logic is the same. The network protects the event and the show picks up where it left off.

My take

My take: one quiet week is the right trade

I’ll be straight: if I were programming CBS tonight, I’d have made the same call, and I’d feel good about it. A scripted case-of-the-week hour is a hard fit for a night when live results can change the story every few minutes. That’s my guess about how it would have gone, not a fact about CBS’s plans, but it’s the reason I’m comfortable with the skip.

A one-week break feels long on a Tuesday and invisible by Thursday. My view, from the schedule, not from watching the episodes

Here’s the three-question test I used. It’s my own, and it’s simple enough to reuse the next time a show goes dark for a night.

1Would the episode get stepped on?On a night built around live results, I think it likely would. A tense scene is a bad place to be interrupted.
2Is the gap short?Yes. It’s seven days, one missed Tuesday, after four straight weeks of new episodes.
3Does everyone restart together?Yes. All three shows return Nov. 10 with their Episode 5, in the same three-hour block.
3 / 3The skip passes my test

There’s a hopeful way to look at this, too. The new lineup has barely settled in, with NCIS: New York only a month old and Tony and Gibbs both back in front of the cameras this season. A single planned pause with a firm return date reads, to me, like a network that expects people to come back. I’d much rather see CBS protect a new Tuesday than shove an episode into a night when so many viewers are watching something else.

And honestly, there’s something nice about a free Tuesday. Seven days is enough time to catch up, rewatch a favorite case or just let the anticipation build. I’m choosing to see it that way.

The cover photo

Why the cover photo is a gate in Washington

The photo at the top is a real picture of the Latrobe Gate, the historic main gate of the Washington Navy Yard in Southeast D.C. I picked it because, on the show, the NCIS team is based at the Washington Navy Yard, as Wikipedia’s description of the series puts it. It’s not a still from any NCIS series.

The real-life agency is a different story. A Navy commander quoted by the Kitsap Daily News in 2016 said NCIS headquarters moved to Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia, but that building new sets in Valencia, California, where the show films, didn’t make financial sense, so the TV headquarters stayed put. I think it’s a charming bit of TV logic: the show’s Navy Yard is the one it’s always had.

Is NCIS worth catching up on before Nov. 10?

I’m not reviewing episodes here, so I can’t score them. If you have a free week, the catch-up math is friendly: 12 episodes at two a night is six nights, which fits inside the seven days.
