Most streaming seasons end the same way: the last episode drops, the credits roll, and you wait for the next one. The Chosen Season 6 is trying something stranger. It streams six episodes this month, then hands the story’s hardest hour to a movie theater.

Prime Video premieres the season Sunday, Nov. 15, with three episodes at once and one more each Sunday through Dec. 6. The finale, a feature-length film, opens in theaters March 12, 2027. I haven’t seen a minute of it, so this page does three jobs: it puts every date in one place, it answers the questions people are actually typing into search, and it tells you how I plan to watch and why I think the stretch in the middle is the part to keep an eye on.

One note on tone before we start. This is a show about the central story of Christianity, and people come to it with very different beliefs. I’m covering the release plan and the TV decisions, not arguing theology, and anything marked as my view is a view about television.

The release calendar: five dates and a sixth that’s still far away

Here’s the whole rollout in order. The first four dates are the streaming run, and the fifth is the film. The dashed one at the bottom is what comes after.

  • SUN15NOV
Premiere: episodes 1 to 3Prime Video and 5&2 Studios say the first three episodes arrive together on premiere day.
  • SUN22NOV
Episode 4One new episode a week from here.
  • SUN29NOV
    Episode 5The penultimate streaming episode.
  • SUN6DEC
Episode 6The last episode on Prime Video this season.
  • FRI12MAR ’27
The finale, in theaters Big screenA feature-length film that concludes the season’s story. It was dated back in May 2025, and Screen Rant repeated the date after the trailer.
  • FRI31MAR ’28
Season 7 premiere, also in theatersThe planned final season covers the resurrection, per reporting on the 2025 announcement.

Sources differ on small things. One fan wiki lists the finale as a seventh numbered episode, while Deadline, Screen Rant and the Arlington Catholic Herald describe six streaming episodes plus a separate film. I’m following the trade and news outlets.

The gap, measured in days (my math)

I did the date math, because the calendar hides something. From the Nov. 15 premiere to the March 12 finale is 117 days. Only 21 of them, Nov. 15 through Dec. 6, have a new episode on Prime Video. The other 96 are the wait.

  • 21 days, about 18%: new episodes stream (Nov. 15 to Dec. 6)
  • 96 days, about 82%: nothing new until the finale (Dec. 6 to March 12)

For scale, 96 days is a little under 14 weeks. By my count, the finale lands about two weeks before Good Friday, which falls on March 26, 2027 on the Western calendar. Early press coverage said the finale was timed for Holy Week, and I’d say “ahead of” is the more accurate way to put it.

Why six episodes instead of eight

Every earlier season of The Chosen ran eight episodes, MovieWeb notes, and Season 6 is shorter on the streaming side, with the finale made feature-length to make up for it. The reasoning, as creator Dallas Jenkins laid it out in the announcement, is that most people know the basics of this part of the story but not necessarily the “why” and the events of those 24 hours. His team decided that deserved both a season of television and a full-length theatrical event.

The season itself is built around the final hours of Jesus’ life, which TheWrap and the Catholic Herald both describe. It picks up after Season 5, which was titled Last Supper.

Season 5, spring 2025Theaters first, streaming second

Fanbolt reports that Last Supper played theaters in three parts in spring 2025 and reached Prime Video on June 15, 2025.

Season 6, fall 2026Streaming first, theaters second

This time the order flips. The six episodes stream first, and the climax goes to theaters afterward. That’s my observation from the two release plans, not something the studio has said.

Where the cross was filmed

The cover photo on this page is a real panorama of the Sassi di Matera, the old cave-dwelling districts of Matera, a town in southern Italy that’s a UNESCO World Heritage site and was a European Capital of Culture in 2019. It’s not a still from the show. I picked it because the Arlington Catholic Herald reported that the cast spent three weeks in Matera in June 2025 filming the crucifixion.

I like that detail for a reason that has nothing to do with the plot. Most of us picture this story as a single painting. A real hillside town, real stone and a crew working through three weeks of shooting is a reminder that somebody had to stage it, again and again, for a camera.

Do you need to rewatch? The two-minute catch-up

If it’s been a while, here’s what I’d hold in your head going in, using only what’s been reported.

Where Season 5 endedWith a betrayal

MovieWeb says Season 5 ended with Judas Iscariot, played by Luke Dimyan, betraying Jesus. Season 6 picks up from there and covers the final 24 hours.

Who’s whoThe people to know

Jonathan Roumie plays Jesus, and Elizabeth Tabish plays Mary Magdalene. Dallas Jenkins created the show and writes and directs it.

If you’re newYou can follow the outline

Most viewers know the Gospel story’s shape, and as Screen Rant describes it, the trailer follows well-known events. What you’d miss is five seasons of relationships. My suggestion is to watch at least the Season 5 finale first.

What the trailer showsThe road to the cross

The Oct. 15 trailer shows Jesus questioned, lashed and made to carry part of the cross, and it ends as preparations for the crucifixion get underway, per Screen Rant.

Where to watch, and what nobody has said yet

The solid facts first, then the gaps. I’ve kept the gaps visible on purpose, because a guide that fills them with guesses isn’t much of a guide.

Three ways to watch it (my plans)

The odd shape of this release means there’s no single right way to watch. These three plans are mine, built from the calendar above, and you can borrow whichever fits your life.

Plan AThe Sunday regular

Watch the three-episode premiere on Nov. 15, then one episode each Sunday.

Best ifYou like talking about a show with other people while it’s unfolding.
Watch outYou’ll finish Dec. 6 with the biggest moment still ahead of you.

Plan BThe weekend binger

Wait until Dec. 6 and watch all six in one sitting or a long weekend.

Best ifYou hate cliffhangers and weekly waits.
Watch outThree weeks of online chatter you’ll have to dodge.

Plan CThe theater planner

Watch the six whenever you like, then rewatch the last two or three in early March before the film.

Best ifYou want the finale to land fresh, with the 96 days behind you.
Watch outIt only works if you’re willing to see the finale in a theater.

My take: a bold bet with one soft spot

Here’s what I keep coming back to, and it’s mostly good news. I like that this show is swinging at the hardest scene it will ever film instead of shrinking it to fit a tidy eight episodes. And it has already shown it can ask fans to leave the couch, since Season 5 played theaters before it streamed. A story people want to see together, in the dark, with no pause button, is a good fit for a big screen.

A finale that asks you to leave the couch has to be worth every one of the 96 days it makes you wait.My view, from the announced schedule, not from watching the season

The soft spot is that wait. Someone who watches all six episodes on Dec. 6 will carry the story through Christmas, New Year’s and the dead of winter before it finishes, and from what I found, nobody has said whether the finale will be streaming anywhere afterward. I’m not saying that’s wrong. I’m saying it asks a lot of casual viewers, and I’d feel better about the plan if I knew the answer.

What the split gets right

  • The streaming run is compact: three episodes on premiere day, then three Sundays, all done in 21 days.
  • The crucifixion gets full-length treatment instead of being squeezed into one episode slot.
  • Theaters suit a story people often want to experience together.
  • The date lands ahead of Good Friday, by my count about two weeks.

What it risks

  • A 96-day gap, about 82% of the time between premiere and finale.
  • Viewers who can’t or won’t go to a theater, with no streaming date announced that I could find.
  • Six streaming episodes, fewer than the eight every earlier season had.
  • Spoilers: with three months between the last episode and the film, the finale’s biggest moment will be easy to run into online.

So here’s my verdict, and it comes with a condition. Yes, watch the six episodes, and think of the March 12 film as the second half of one story, not an add-on. If the streaming plan for the finale gets clearer, the soft spot gets a lot softer. If it doesn’t, plan on the theater. Either way, I’d much rather watch a show take a big swing than play it safe on the story it’s been walking toward for years.

For what it’s worth, the show carries a 97% Rotten Tomatoes audience score, according to Screen Rant. I haven’t watched Season 6 and haven’t read critic reviews of it, so I’m not scoring it.

Quick answers people are searching for

When does The Chosen Season 6 come out?

Six episodes stream on Prime Video: three on Nov. 15, then one each on Nov. 22, Nov. 29 and Dec. 6. A feature-length finale follows in theaters on March 12, 2027. Every earlier season had eight episodes, so this one is built differently.

What time does The Chosen Season 6 premiere on Prime Video?

None of the announcements I read gives a time of day, only the date. I’d check the Prime Video listing on Nov. 15 instead of trusting a time I can’t source.

Where can I watch The Chosen Season 6?

On Prime Video. Deadline reports it will be available there in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Sub-Saharan Africa, the U.K. and Latin America. The first five seasons are also on Prime Video.

Yes, the season is built around Jesus’ crucifixion and the final hours leading up to it. Screen Rant reports that the whole crucifixion storyline won’t play out in the six streaming episodes, and that a feature-length film in theaters concludes it.

Is The Chosen Season 6 finale only in theaters?

It opens in theaters on March 12, 2027. In the sources I read, no streaming date for the finale had been announced, so I can’t tell you when or where you’ll be able to watch it at home.

No. The creators have planned seven seasons. According to reporting on the 2025 date announcement, the Season 7 premiere is set for theaters on March 31, 2028, and it will cover the resurrection.

Jonathan Roumie plays Jesus. Screen Rant’s cast list for the show also includes Shahar Isaac, Paras Patel, Elizabeth Tabish, Noah James, George H. Xanthis, Abe Bueno-Jallad, Vanessa Benavente, Luke Dimyan, Richard Fancy, Paul Ben-Victor and Andrew James Allen.

Do I need to watch Season 5 before Season 6?

It helps. Season 5, called Last Supper, ended with Judas betraying Jesus, and Season 6 picks up from there. If you know the Gospel outline you can follow along, but you’d miss five seasons of character history. I’d watch at least the Season 5 finale first.

Will The Chosen Season 6 be free on The Chosen app?

Fanbolt reports that the show’s official site says episodes 1 through 6 will be free on The Chosen app after the Prime Video window, and that no app date has been announced. It also relays a report that Prime Video holds a 90-day exclusive window.

Is The Chosen Season 6 worth watching?

I haven’t seen any of it, so I can’t score it. My pre-watch answer is a conditional yes: watch the six episodes, and treat the March 12 film as the second half of one story. The Rotten Tomatoes audience score for the show is 97%, according to Screen Rant.
