I’ll tell you where I’m coming from: I’m a sucker for shows that start small and a little weird. Minimum Wage started that way. As American High’s Will Phelps tells it, a group of friends in Liverpool, New York, shot eight episodes for YouTube around the winter of 2024, and those clips did well enough that streamers started calling. A little over two years after the first sketches went up, the same pizza shop is on Netflix, and on its second day it was the No. 4 show on the service’s U.S. chart.

I’ve laid this piece out like a shift at the shop, because the show’s whole pitch is that it respects your time: clock in, run the numbers, hit the break room, close out. One thing up front. This isn’t an episode-by-episode review. It’s my read of the format, the numbers and what the critics who watched the first batch are saying, and anywhere I’m giving you an opinion, I’ll say so.

I’m coming in optimistic, with one worry. Optimistic because there’s something kind of sweet about a comedy built around everybody’s first bad job, and because short episodes feel like a rare act of restraint in streaming. The worry is the one the critics keep circling: a show can be easy to like and still have almost nothing to say. Which side I land on is in the last section.

The Key Points

  • Minimum Wage premiered Monday, Oct. 26, 2026, on Netflix with 14 episodes. Netflix ordered 28, which the Hollywood Reporter says are being released in two batches of 14, and each episode runs about 12 to 20 minutes.
  • The reviews are a split decision. The Hollywood Reporter found it breezy but light on substance, Decider says stream it, and What’s on Netflix gave it 2.5 out of 5. Harsher takes exist.
  • My take: the short format is the smartest decision the show made. Watching all 14 episodes takes between 2 hours 48 minutes and 4 hours 40 minutes by my math, so treat it like a sampler, not a commitment.

What is Minimum Wage on Netflix, and where did it come from?

Minimum Wage is a mockumentary-style workplace comedy about a handful of teenagers who work at Slice Club, a pizzeria that’s part of a small chain in upstate New York. They’re the shop’s only employees, and as the Hollywood Reporter’s review puts it, the place feels closer to a dysfunctional family than a job. The cast plays characters who share their own first names.

It began as a web series from American High, the Syracuse-area production company founded by Jeremy Garelick. The original Minimum Wage shorts launched in May 2024 and, according to trade reports, passed 30 million views across YouTube, TikTok and Instagram before Netflix announced a 28-episode order on April 30, 2026. Garelick and Will Phelps created the Netflix version.

The setup is simple. The Slice Club isn’t making money, and Terry Sylvester, the founder of the franchise, shows up to decide whether it stays open or gets sold. Around that, the trailer promises 10-minutes-or-it’s-free deliveries, prank wars in the walk-in freezer, a badly planned valet service and, somehow, a fight club in the parking lot.

S2 Break math Status: my math

How long does it take to watch Minimum Wage? The binge timecard

Reports don’t agree on exactly how long these episodes run. Early coverage said about 12.5 minutes each, while the Hollywood Reporter, which screened the first batch, says they run 12 to 20 minutes. So here’s my own math for all 14 episodes, three ways.

If every episode is 12 minutes2 h 48 min
14 × 12 = 168 minutes
If every episode is 12.5 minutes (the early figure)2 h 55 min
14 × 12.5 = 175 minutes
If every episode is 20 minutes4 h 40 min
14 × 20 = 280 minutes

The real total sits somewhere between the shortest and longest bar, since episodes aren’t all the same length.

For scale, an eight-episode drama with hour-long episodes is about eight hours. Even at the long end, this whole first batch is well under that. If you’d rather split it, seven episodes per sitting comes to between 1 hour 24 minutes and 2 hours 20 minutes. That’s a movie-length evening, twice.

S3 Crew meeting Status: reported

Who is in the Minimum Wage cast, and why is Randall Park there?

Here’s the roll call as listed by the Hollywood Reporter and the A.V. Club. Most of the Slice Club crew carries over from the YouTube series, and the one big new name walks in wearing a tie.

Randall ParkGuest star · Terry Sylvester

The founder of the pizza franchise, who arrives to decide the shop’s fate. Park is the biggest name in the cast, known for Fresh Off the Boat.

Grace ReiterSlice Club crew

A Saturday Night Live ensemble member in her first season there, and part of the American High team from the YouTube series.

The rest of the crewSlice Club crew

Aidan Micho, Ryan Micho, Hyde Healy, Julia Dicesare, Luke Burke and Tommy Armstrong round out the staff.

Here’s my opinion on the casting: bringing in a recognizable comic actor as the suit who walks through the door is the smartest cheat code in the show. It gives a cast of mostly unfamiliar faces an authority figure to bounce off. One caution from Decider, though. Park barely appears in some episodes, so don’t press play expecting a Randall Park showcase.

What are critics saying about Minimum Wage? The break-room huddle

Nobody I found is calling Minimum Wage a classic. Here’s the early lineup.

The Hollywood Reporter · Daniel FienbergMixed-positive

“Not much substance, but fast and likable”

The review says the series looks as cheap as it probably was, but the episodes move fast enough, and talent pops up often enough, to make an energetic, throwaway binge.

Decider · Joel KellerStream it

A few good laughs and a fun cast

Keller says it isn’t gut-grabbing hilarious and the characters don’t stand out beyond their antics, but each episode is a pleasant way to spend a quarter of an hour.

What’s on Netflix · Rendy Jones2.5 out of 5

Not fully baked

A middling score, with a pizza joke attached that I’ll leave to the reviewer.

Rotten Tomatoes80% on 3 reviews

Too small a sample to mean much

When I checked, the show had only three critic reviews and fewer than 50 audience ratings, so I wouldn’t lean on that percentage yet.

Smaller sitesHarsher

Loud, overacted, hard to laugh at

At least one smaller review site gave it 1.5 out of 5, and a UK reviewer felt it never lands as the American Office it seems to want to be.

The Hollywood Reporter also raises the fair criticism that the world is narrow: the shop is the center of everyone’s life, the friend group is tiny, and despite hints of Superstore the show has little to say about what low-wage work is actually like. I think that’s accurate, and it’s the heart of the split. The people who liked it liked the pace. The people who didn’t wanted a point.

How is Minimum Wage doing on Netflix’s charts?

On Tuesday, Oct. 27, the day after launch, Minimum Wage was No. 4 on Netflix’s U.S. shows chart, according to FlixPatrol, which tracks the service’s daily rankings. Tom’s Guide’s list for the same day matches.

  1. WWE Raw
  2. Nobody Wants This
  3. From
  4. Minimum WageDay two

It wasn’t in the global daily top 10 that day, which tells me, and this is my read from a single day of data, that its early audience skews American. Netflix hasn’t published its official weekly viewing numbers for the show, so there’s no hours or views figure to report.

One more number deserves a footnote. The 30 million views from the original shorts are views of clips spread across three platforms over about two years. They’re not 30 million people who watched a series, and they’re not a promise that those fans will show up on Netflix.

Why 28 episodes in two batches, and what hasn’t Netflix said?

The gap between 14 episodes out and 28 ordered is the question I see most. Here’s the clean split, based only on what outlets and the people involved have said.

Posted · confirmed

  • The first 14 episodes premiered on Netflix on Oct. 26, 2026.
  • Netflix ordered 28 episodes, which the Hollywood Reporter says come in two batches of 14.
  • Jeremy Garelick and Will Phelps created it, based on American High’s web series.
  • Randall Park guest stars as Terry Sylvester.

Not posted · not announced

  • A release date for the remaining 14 episodes.
  • Whether Netflix will call the second batch Season 2 or part of Season 1.
  • Official Netflix viewing numbers for the show.
  • A confirmed age rating that I could verify on Netflix itself.

One thing sits in a gray zone. Some outlets say all 28 episodes were filmed together, which would explain the two-batch release. I haven’t seen that confirmed by Netflix or the creators, so I’m treating it as a report, not a fact.

S7 Performance review Status: opinion

My slice score: grading the format, not the jokes

These slices are my opinion of the format and the reception, built from the reviews and the numbers. They aren’t a grade for any individual episode or for the jokes. Five slices is the maximum.

Pace

The one thing nearly every critic agrees on. Episodes this short don’t have room to drag.

Fit of format

The originals were shorts. Keeping the episodes short respects what made the web series work in the first place.

Depth

Reviewers say there isn’t much to say about work or wages. It’s a hangout, not a statement.

Originality

Teens at a workplace, shot as a mockumentary, is a familiar recipe. Reviewers reach for The Office and Superstore.

Binge-ability

Fourteen episodes in under five hours, even at the long end, is an easy weekend.

Minimum Wage questions people are asking

When did Minimum Wage come out on Netflix?

Monday, Oct. 26, 2026, with 14 episodes.

How many episodes does Minimum Wage have?

Fourteen are streaming. Netflix ordered 28, which the Hollywood Reporter says are being released in two batches of 14.

How long are Minimum Wage episodes?

The Hollywood Reporter says 12 to 20 minutes. Early coverage said about 12.5. By my math all 14 episodes take between 2 hours 48 minutes and 4 hours 40 minutes.

Who stars in Minimum Wage?

Aidan Micho, Grace Reiter, Hyde Healy, Julia Dicesare, Luke Burke, Ryan Micho and Tommy Armstrong, with Randall Park as guest star Terry Sylvester.

Is Minimum Wage based on a true story?

No. It’s a scripted comedy adapted from American High’s web series of the same name.

Is there a Minimum Wage Season 2?

Netflix lists the first 14 episodes as Season 1 and hasn’t announced a date for the other 14 or said how they’ll be labeled.

Is Minimum Wage like The Office?

It’s shot in the same mockumentary style, and reviewers draw comparisons. The Hollywood Reporter hears echoes of Superstore but says it has little to say about low-wage work, while a UK reviewer says it doesn’t pull off the Office comparison.

Is Minimum Wage for kids?

The characters are teenagers, but reviewers describe a workplace comedy with crude banter, and one UK review says the frequent swearing is bleeped there. I couldn’t confirm the rating from Netflix, so check the title page before pressing play for younger viewers.

Should you watch Minimum Wage? My closing-shift verdict

This is a verdict on whether to start, not a review of every episode.

Watch tonight ifyou like hangout comedies where not much happens and you want something you can finish in an afternoon. At roughly three hours, it’s a cheap bet.
Sample two episodes ifyou’re on the fence. Two episodes cost between 24 and 40 minutes, which is a small price to find out whether the crew clicks for you.
Skip it ifyou want a comedy with a sharp point of view on work and wages. The critics say this isn’t that, and nothing I found suggests otherwise.

My verdict: stream it like a snack, not a meal. The short episodes are the smartest part. The story is the thing I’d love to see grow.
